Have you already dialled 67788?

The old Cisco telephones in our telephone system are now getting on in years and need to be replaced. To this end, BITS is now replacing all configured and ready-to-use old phones (and ATA boxes) with new devices free of charge.

The new phones have a larger colour display, a modern design and will continue to be supplied with the latest security updates.

To switch to the new phone, please follow these steps:

  1. On the old phone, dial 67788 and you will hear a tape announcement.
  2. You now have 24 hours to dismantle the old telephone and return it to the BITS Support Office (BITS-Beratung) for a new device.
  3. You then reconnect the new telephone to the same connection and the device automatically reconfigures itself. After approx. 15 minutes, the new telephone is ready for use with all previous settings.
    Note: If the new telephone asks for a "Primary Extension/PIN" in between, nothing should be entered or pressed. The phone is configured completely automatically.
  4. Your new phone is now ready for exchange at the BITS-Beratung (main building, room A0-301). Opening hours: Mon-Fri, 09:30-16:00.

Please do not hesitate to replace your phone soon!

Tape announcement of the number 67788

Here is the text of the tape announcement when calling 67788:

"Willkommen bei der Telefon Austauschaktion des BITS.

Ihr Wunsch zum Austausch des Telefons wurde vorgemerkt.

Sie haben nun 24 Stunden Zeit, Ihr altes Telefon abzubauen und am selben Anschluss das neue Telefon anzuschließen. Am neuen Telefon müssen Sie für die Ersetzung keine weiteren Eingaben machen. Das neue Telefon wird automatisch konfiguriert und steht nach wenigen Minuten wieder wie gewohnt zur Verfügung. Das alte Telefon können Sie gemäß den Vorgaben entsorgen. Sie können nun auflegen."
