Short Vita

Studied philosophy, political science and comparative literature at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. Magister Artium with a thesis on Emmanuel-Joseph Sieyès' theory of representation. Doctoral studies in Munich, 2001 research stay in Paris. Doctorate in 2003 summa cum laude with a dissertation on Jean-Jacques Rousseau's political philosophy, released under the title Bürgerliches Glaubensbekenntnis. Moral and Religion in Rousseau's political philosophy, Paderborn: Fink 2006 (PDF of the publisher's advertisement, review). Habilitation 2016 with a thesis on moral obligation, Venia legendi for philosophy.

From 1996 to 1997 lecturer at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute for Political Science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, from winter semester 1997/1998 to winter semester 2003/2004 research assistant to Prof. Dr. Peter Joachim Opitz at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute for Political Science, lectureship for political theory and philosophy. From summer semester 2003 to summer semester 2007 research assistant to Prof. Dr. Bernd Ludwig (Chair of Philosophy with focus on the history of philosophy) at the Philosophy Department of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen. Since winter semester 2007/2008 junior professor at the Department of Philosophy at Bielefeld University. Positive interim evaluation as junior professor in the summer semester 2010. Summer semester 2011 to winter semester 2012/13 administrative leave for a Junior Fellowship at the Max Weber College in Erfurt. From summer semester 2013 to winter semester 2014/15 on parental leave. In March 2017, acceptance of the offer to stay at Bielefeld University in order to avert a call for the W3 professorship for practical philosophy at Oldenburg University. Since then professorship for History of Philosophy and Practical Philosophy.

Research

Ethics and Practical Philosophy, Philosophy of Law, Philosophy of Religion, Aesthetics, History of Practical Philosophy.

  • Politics ↔ Religion
  • Practical Philosophy in the early Modern Era, especially Suárez, Hoobbes, Locke, Roussea, Kant and their environment
